The systematic review must evaluate evidence related to best management practices and welfare recommendations for one of the animal species most commonly involved in research and teaching (including but not limited to mice, rats, zebrafish, rabbits, nonhuman primates, dogs and pigs). The systematic review must use a transparent, reproducible methodology.

Anticipated project duration: 12-14 months
One grant of up to $100,000 USD (roughly equivalent to £74,000 pound sterling or 87,000 Euro) will be awarded.
Potential systematic review topics could be:
- Refinement approaches to reduce stress/anxiety-related behaviours
- Indicators of well-being and distress
- Behavioural management of research animals (incl. constraints and mitigations)
- Standardized welfare assessment tools and endpoints
Applicants should demonstrate expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- Laboratory animal welfare and behavioural management
- Systematic review methodology and evidence synthesis
- Laboratory animal medicine/science
- Biostatistics, epidemiology, or related analytical fields
Collaborative teams are encouraged and may include veterinarians, ethologists, animal welfare scientists, animal care professionals, librarians/information specialists, and systematic review experts.
